Current Projects
Renowned Cypriot violinist and composer presents his latest project Michalis Kouloumis Quintet. Through this ensemble, artist Michalis Kouloumis showcases his original compositions as well as arrangements on traditional melodies inspired by the Greek islandic repertoire performed with his unique and characteristic musical idiom. Michalis shares the stage with four exquisite musicians from Greece and Cyprus with whom he has extensively worked in recent years.

Michalis Kouloumis is the teacher and conductor of the brilliant Ammochostos Traditional Music Orchestra which captivates the audience in every performance. The Orchestra is a non-for-profit organisation and was established in 2024 with the aim of educating and showcasing the talented young musicians of Cyprus, as well as preserving the Cypriot identity through the teaching and promotion of the music of Cyprus and the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean. Alongside the Orchestra, there is a Youth Department, taught by the exceptional musician Kyriakos Markoullis.

ONE IS THE SUN, THE OTHER IS THE MOON - Dance and Music performance

The performance "One is the Sun, the other is the Moon" is a performance that negotiates the dialectical relationship of masculine and feminine nature with tradition and not necessarily identified with a woman or a man. It will take the viewer on a journey through lyrics, sounds and dances from Cyprus, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete, Drama, Thrace, Pontus and Southern Italy. The performance will include musical performances from all three records of Papadopoulou and the group Aegean Arc (Notio Toxo)

Violinist, improviser and composer Michalis Kouloumis visits the Music Village for the first time as a seminar instructor and invites us to dive into the world of taksim and the art of makam improvisation. Participants will have the opportunity to play taksims by studying its different roles in musical practice.

THE JOURNEY OF A COSTUME, FROM

A folklore performance, marking the Centenary of the Asia Minor Disaster, which follows the journey of a Sunday dress of an Asia Minor refugee and unfolds the sad story of the displaced Greeks of Asia Minor who made their way to their new homelands, bringing along their songs, music and dances, and enriching the culture of Cyprus with their traditions.
